According to the most recent Monitoring the Future Survey 2021, “Vaping continues to be the predominant method of nicotine consumption among young people, though the percentage of students who reported vaping nicotine within the past year decreased significantly for eighth, 10th, and 12th grade students. 12.1% of 8th graders, 9.5% of 10th graders, and 26.6% of 12th graders reported vaping nicotine in the past year.” Vaping and e-cigarette use was seen as an “off-ramp” for adult cigarette users but has propelled an epidemic for youth. Teens and young adult face an easily accessible and anonymous threat to their development through the induction into what potentially could become a lifetime struggle with nicotine addiction. Nicotine addiction is often associated with further drug use.
