We Serve Harlem
NY Center For Living
Harlem Drug Rehab Center
Studies have found that over 1/3 of residents in Harlem reported using substances before COVID with 7.3 percent of residents using hard drugs prior to COVID. Problems surrounding depression, housing insecurity and employment insecurity increased the likelihood of developing an addiction.
Harlem residents struggling with symptoms of depression or housing insecurity, for example, have a 47 percent greater probability of increasing their substance abuse if they already use, or initiating substance abuse.
East Harlem has some of the highest rankings for fatal overdoses in New York city, recording almost 90 overdose deaths per 100,000 residents in 2022, a 28 percent increase from the previous year.
Opioids, Fentanyl in particular, remain the leading cause of these overdose deaths. Fentanyl was involved in over 78 percent of all overdose deaths recorded across Harlem.
If you are struggling with addiction and looking for a Harlem rehab center, we can help.
NYCFL Rehab Center Harlem
New York Center for Living (NYCFL) is dedicated to helping teens, adults, and their families get the help they need for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Our programs provide weekday access to a range of therapies, with programs that include:
- Teen and youth substance abuse treatment programs
- Adult treatment programs
- Drug testing
- Dual diagnosis services
We know how important early intervention can be, and why access to peer support can make all the difference.
Teen Care
Teens and youth are at a higher risk of developing addictions and co-occurring mental health disorders. That is why the right intervention, and an early intervention, is imperative. Part of that relies on individual and group therapy, but an even bigger part hinges on peer support.
Our teen rehab program focuses first on stopping substance abuse and then teaching teens to thrive. The sessions in which clients participate will focus on developing things like:
- Building healthy communication skills
- Building healthy relationships
- Managing stress
- Emotional regulation
- Academic and career readiness
- Mindfulness and self-awareness
- Personal responsibility
- Goal setting
While you might find many other teen rehab facilities throughout New York, ours excels when it comes to clinical excellence, warmth, and flexibility providing teens with the confidence they need to rebuild their lives through creative activities, group work, and individual counseling.
We were created by a family with personal experience in the gaps associated with teen aftercare and that’s why we work hard to create personalized care plans that reflect the needs and identities of our clients from an easily accessible location. That’s also why we put so much effort into building a robust alumni program with ongoing support from peers, peer networks, and community activities.
Young Adult Care
At New York Center for Living, we know that adults struggle with substance abuse too. Our young adult program offers individuals a chance to tackle their addictions and any underlying mental health concerns at the same time.
Our young adult treatment program can help clients who have already completed a residential treatment program or detox program but want continued care as they start to integrate back to their independent lives.
We utilize evidence-based therapies like:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: This is a tool to help clients catch negative thought patterns and behaviors that might be contributing to negative emotions and negative actions, and then utilizing practical strategies to change those behaviors and thoughts
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy: This is a way to build better emotional regulation and distress tolerance, an essential tool for young adults who have to navigate their recovery while building their independence
- Motivational Interviewing: This is a way for a clients to recognize their personal reasons for wanting to change and wanting to be better, which can strengthen their motivation and their commitment to their program
- Exposure Therapy: This is a way to help clients deal with their trauma or anxiety, reducing avoidance behaviors and building confidence by creating a place where they can safely confront their triggers
Our outpatient programs are a bridge between intensive residential care and full independence, creating a space where young adults can continue to receive the support they need to build their skills, self-esteem, and resilience.
Frequently Asked Questions
Harlem Addiction Treatment FAQs
What Happens in an IOP?
At NYCFL, our intensive outpatient program can help young adults and adults participate in evidence-based therapies like motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy. These sessions provide part-time structure for people who might be stepping down after recently completing a residential program and detox.
Why Does My Program Include Family Therapy?
Substance abuse affects the entire family system, not just the individual and that’s why we focus on bringing all members of the family into treatment particularly for our Adolescent and young adult program. We offer things like Parent Only groups and Significant Other groups where parents are significant others can learn more about addiction, learn how to support a loved one with an addiction, build strategies for intervention, improve communication, and create a supportive environment at home.
What is the Best Therapy for Addiction Recovery?
There are many types of evidence-based therapies and our facility uses a broad collection of therapies that are complementary. Cognitive behavioral therapy, for example, helps our clients address negative thought patterns and replace them for healthy coping skills while motivational interviewing helps to strengthen commitment to sustained change.
