Our Mission and Vision

New York Center for Living (NYCFL) is a New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) certified outpatient program.

New York Center for Living is the only program in New York City exclusively dedicated to the treatment of substance use challenges facing adolescents and emergent adults.

At New York Center for Living, we believe early intervention, peer support networks and strong family relationships are integral to a successful treatment outcome. New York Center for Living was founded to fulfill a dire need in New York City and is specifically designed for the needs of this young population, from prevention and early intervention to treatment and aftercare.

Mission

New York Center for Living is redefining the nature of substance abuse and mental health treatment through standards of excellence to provide compassionate and age appropriate care to teens, young adults and their families.

Vision Statement

At New York Center for Living (NYCFL) our vision is to shape the future direction of substance abuse and mental health treatment to meet the unique developmental needs of adolescents, young adults and their families.

We understand that younger people are exposed to biological, social and psychological demands that may not be in sync with traditional models of adult “recovery.” At NYCFL our teens and young adults are engaged in a process of ‘self-discovery.’ Cultivating this natural state of growth, we use a family-based model of treatment to offer a wide array of experiential and therapeutic methods that provide the foundational skills for a future of principled and healthy adult living.

NYCFL aims to craft lifestyle choices rooted in principled decision-making that promote the health and well-being of adolescents in partnership with their families, schools and communities.

Our Purpose

The New York Center for Living is dedicated to making a tangible impact on society and its views towards issues of adolescent substance abuse and mental health. Recognizing the stigmatization of substance use and mental health conditions that is faced by young adults and adolescents, as well as their families, the New York Center for Living is committed to ending the stigma through education, treatment, and prevention. All too often, this stigmatization is internalized by those affected by it, and it can serve as a barrier to people seeking the help that they deserve.

Through a series of initiatives including community outreach programs and free education sessions for families, the New York Center for Living invests time into educating the community and serving as a mentor to spearhead discussions on difficult topics. We believe that one of the best ways we can raise awareness is by providing a platform for members of the community to share their stories, opinions, and concerns on the nature of substance abuse and mental health treatment.

Treatment Goals

At NYCFL healing begins with the family. We embrace your family with our treatment family to offer hope and action steps toward a brighter future.

Our multidisciplinary evaluation and admission processes are based upon the understanding that teens and young adults often present with a confusing array of signs and symptoms that are hard to interpret. Where to begin to seek help to sort through concerns that may be negatively impacting the individual, family, school, and/or vocational track can be overwhelming. From your first phone call to us, we are here to guide you to the right level of care to meet your individual needs. If we are not the right fit, we remain connected to help you with the appropriate referral.

At NYCFL teens and young adults join with a community of age-appropriate peers
to practice making drug-free and healthy choices. Our treatment milieu combines research and compassionate therapeutic skills that target principled decision-making, enhanced emotional regulation, and vocational aspirations, that are pivotal to a stable adulthood.

Parents, stepparents and significant others are encouraged to be fully involved. Let us be the guides to educate and offer reasoned approaches to deal with your intense feelings of worry that can translate to conflict. Our goal is to restore the harmony that can lead to the successful launching of your teen or emergent adult.
