We Serve Brooklyn
NY Center For Living
Drug Rehab in Brooklyn, New York
Brooklyn overdose deaths have reached high levels, increasing 22 in 2022. Hundreds of Brooklyn residents die every year from drug overdoses, and of those, 83% involve Fentanyl, and another 51 percent involve cocaine.
Finding the right rehab in Brooklyn, New York, can be the difference between recovery and an overdose.
Around 20% of New Yorkers experience a mental illness every year, with almost 300,000 individuals in Brooklyn affected by mental health conditions. Five percent of these are serious mental health conditions. Rates for mental health disorders are significantly higher among youth in Brooklyn, with 8.6% of those aged 18 to 25 struggling with poor mental health.
Moreover, the majority of people struggling with mental health fail to get the help they need, with Brooklyn residents in particular struggling with unequal access to resources, affordability issues, and an incorrect belief that they can handle issues on their own.
Without the right treatment, individuals are more likely to self-medicate with drugs or alcohol, and this can increase the risk of addiction and overdoses.
At New York Center for Living, we offer specialized teen and young adult outpatient programs with a focus on dual diagnosis care for mental health.
Drug Rehab in Brooklyn, New York
With NYCFL, we provide three levels of drug rehab, delineated by age group, with a particular offering for adolescents, young adults, and adults.
Adolescent Treatment
The first is our Adolescent Treatment program, designed to support teenagers who are struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders, particularly depression or anxiety. With this program, teens receive 6 hours of weekly group sessions, and parents play an integral role by participating in family therapy and educational sessions so that they can help support their team at home.
Young Adult Treatment
The second is our young adult treatment program. This provides structured therapy on an average of 9 hours per week for those who might be dealing with significant life changes like going to college or learning who they are as a person. This includes participation in individual and group therapy sessions, peer recovery support, and wellness activities.
Professionals Program
The third is our adult professionals program. This program is available in person and online for people aged 25 or older. With a commitment to flexible scheduling, this is there to help adults maintain their recovery with relapse prevention, boundary setting, and stress management. The goal of this is to support adults who are trying to maintain their recovery while also facing the unique challenges that adulthood brings, particularly career challenges, relationship challenges, and challenges within the family unit.
All three options incorporate similar, evidence-based therapies and if clients are struggling with co-occurring mental health disorders, our team can provide dual diagnosis treatment that deals with both.
Dual Diagnosis Rehab in Brooklyn, New York
We know how common it is for teens and adults alike to struggle with addiction and mental health disorders.
- Over 60 percent of people struggling with addiction have another mental health disorder
- Over 35 percent of adults diagnosed with a mental health disorder will also develop a substance abuse disorder
- Teens and adolescents with substance use disorders have high rates of co-occurring disorders like depression, anxiety, and ADHD
Given the high rate of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, treatment requires an integrated approach to not only identify these co-occurring disorders but also treat them at the same time.
At NYCFL, we start with identification through our comprehensive evaluations. These evaluations might look a little different for someone who has participated in a rehab program in the past, but ultimately, the goal is to identify whether there are co-occurring disorders and, as such, how to create personalized treatment.
Drug Rehab in Brooklyn, New York
We aim to offer combinations of things like psychosocial interventions and medications, teaching each of our clients comprehensive coping skills to manage things like:
- Depression
- Bipolar disorder
- Anxiety disorders
- Trauma
- Attachment issues
- Self-injurious behaviors
- Codependency
Treatment with either our intensive outpatient (IOP) or outpatient (OP) program can help address the underlying causes of mental health disorders and substance use disorders.
Tackling Causes of Addiction
There are many risk factors for co-occurring disorders, including:
- Genetics
- Adverse social environments
- Trauma
- Stress
Experiencing trauma early in life increases the risk of developing mental health conditions and substance use disorders. One analysis found that over 30 percent of adults who struggled with substance use disorder also had a history of childhood trauma.
Those who have a mental health disorder that is undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, or for whom medication is not being taken might try to self-medicate with drugs and alcohol. This is why there is often an overlap between mental health disorders and substance abuse.
Mental health disorders can contribute to substance disorders, as those struggling with depression, pain, anxiety, or stress are very likely to turn to something that can temporarily make their symptoms go away or at least diminish what they feel like.
Individualized Care
With NYCFL, clients receive individualized treatment plans after their initial diagnosis. This plan involves a combination of individual therapy and counseling, peer support, and regular evaluations. Addiction doesn’t exist in a vacuum and is typically associated with other behaviors or mental health conditions, but the right types of coping skills can empower clients to manage symptoms, build their distress tolerance or emotional regulation, and turn to self-care techniques instead of drugs and alcohol.
