The First Treatment Center of Its Kind for Adolescents & Young Adults.

" Turning Recovery into Self Discovery"

In 2007, Elizabeth Kabler recognized that there were no outpatient treatment programs in the city. To address that need, Elizabeth organized a board of trustees and founded New York Center for Living as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, making it the first adolescent and young adult treatment center of its kind in New York City.

Since then, the exceptional staff and rigorous clinical program of New York Center for Living have been changing lives, one family at a time. The center exists in perpetuity to serve the families of this great city as long as the need exists

Our Mission

New York Center for Living is a New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) certified outpatient program.

New York Center for Living (NYCFL) is a New York State OASAS licensed treatment facility that provides a safe community of peers in which to practice strategies of principled decision-making, enhance emotional regulation and explore vocational aspirations that are foundational to stable adulthood. Our treatment milieu combines research and compassionate therapeutic skills into a family-based model of treatment that fosters the healthy growth and meets the social needs of adolescents and young adults.

We serve the unique developmental, social, and psychological needs of adolescents and young adults who have substance use and associated mental health disorders.

At New York Center for Living, we believe early intervention, peer support networks and strong family relationships are integral to a successful treatment outcome. At New York Center for Living (NYCFL) our vision is to shape the future direction of substance abuse and mental health treatment to meet the unique developmental needs of adolescents, young adults and their families living in New York City.

Mission

New York Center for Living is re-defining the nature of substance abuse and mental health treatment through standards of excellence to provide compassionate and age appropriate care to teens, young adults and their families.

Vision Statement

At New York Center for Living (NYCFL) our vision is to shape the future direction of substance abuse and mental health treatment to meet the unique developmental needs of adolescents, young adults and their families.

We understand that younger people are exposed to biological, social and psychological demands that may not be in sync with traditional models of adult “recovery.” At NYCFL our teens and young adults are engaged in a process of “self-discovery.” Cultivating this natural state of growth, we use a family-based model of treatment to offer a wide array of experiential and therapeutic methods that provide the foundational skills for a future of principled and healthy adult living.

NYCFL aims to craft lifestyle choices rooted in principled decision-making that promote the health and well-being of adolescents in partnership with their families, schools and communities.

Treatment Goals

At NYCFL healing begins with the family. We embrace your family with our treatment family to offer hope and action steps toward a brighter future.

Our multidisciplinary evaluation and admission processes are based upon the understanding that teens and young adults often present with a confusing array of signs and symptoms that are hard to interpret. Where to begin to seek help to sort through concerns that may be negatively impacting the individual, family, school and/or vocational tract can be overwhelming. From your first phone call to us we are here to guide you to the right level of care to meet your individual needs. If we are not the right fit we remain connected to help you with the appropriate referral.

At NYCFL teens and young adults join with a community of age-appropriate peers to practice making drug-free and healthy choices. Our treatment milieu combines research and compassionate therapeutic skills that target principled decision-making, enhanced emotional regulation, and vocational aspirations, that are pivotal to stable adulthood.

Finally, we believe that your family is our family. Parents, stepparents and significant others are encouraged to be fully involved. Let us be the guides to educate and offer reasoned approaches to deal with your intense feelings of worry that can translate to conflict. Our goal is to restore harmony that can lead to successful launching of your teen or emergent adult.

Elizabeth Kabler established an endowment for the foundation, and this recurring gift allows clients to access the highest quality of care at a reduced cost—currently less than half the cost of many other treatment centers. Whether paying for attendance through an insurance policy or self-pay, our clients benefit from the foundation’s fundraising efforts that keep costs down.

Each year, New York Center for Living hosts our annual fundraiser to support our sliding scale fund, which helps to significantly lower the cost of attendance for all New York Center for Living clients.

The long-term goal of New York Center for Living is to broaden the scope of our services by providing further outreach programs and education. Our intent is for all pediatricians to recognize and understand substance use in adolescents, for members of the community to be able to identify these same symptoms and for all who need it to have access to care. You can help us with this effort.

Your gift allows us to support the people and communities we serve, with valuable resources and the highest quality of care at the lowest possible price. Your donation is fully tax deductible and will directly help heal lives while creating better futures for our clients and their families and the community at-large. Please make a donation today.
