NY Center for Living is a non-profit treatment center in Midtown Manhattan. We operate with outpatient programs and give clients access to several professionals best suited to their needs including an OCD therapist in NYC.

With individual therapy sessions clients have the opportunity to work with an OCD therapist NYC based, building a trusting relationship and learning to tackle individual triggers, obsessions, compulsions, and other secondary symptoms. These therapy sessions can be incorporated into things like our college student programs, young adult programs, or adult programs. All of these function as intensive outpatient programs with between 6:00 and 9 hours of individual and group therapy sessions every week.

What to Expect from an OCD Therapist in NYC

Treatment Services that Meet Your Needs

At our treatment center, we connect clients with OCD specialists who act as a coach and collaborator, someone there not just to listen as is the case with other talk therapy, but to guide and instruct clients.

During an OCD treatment program, clients can expect structured care with things like cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, and medication management.

When you first reach out to our facility for an opportunity to work with an OCD therapist, we’ll start with an initial assessment. This will help make sure that the right program level is chosen based on individual needs such as co-occurring substance use disorders.

During the first sessions with your OCD therapist in NYC, you’ll focus on identifying personal triggers, obsessions, and compulsions that might be used as coping mechanisms. Your therapist will work with you to create a list of things like most distressing to least distressing triggering situations.

Having this information is the starting point toward actively managing symptoms of OCD by gradually facing triggers and resisting the urge to perform rituals. The first part of this is called exposure therapy and the second is called response prevention.

In between your outpatient therapy sessions, you’ll typically be assigned homework, opportunities to practice your exposure exercises in your daily environment. There might be specific lists of opportunities to practice these skills that gradually build in intensity or requirement and you might even be asked to record aspects of the experience for later discussion.

Our OCD therapists work with each of our clients to create a non judgmental and safe space. In some cases that extends to a trauma-informed approach specifically for clients who struggle with things like untreated trauma, PTSD, and OCD. For other clients this might involve medication management services to provide regular psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication to help manage OCD symptoms while practicing things like exposure therapy and response prevention.

Why Clients Love NY Center for Living

Comprehensive Treatment in NYC

Unlike traditional centers, we distinguish ourselves through a family-inclusive, non-profit model that focuses on transitional life stages. Our programs are best for those who have recently completed a residential program, anyone who might be struggling with a relapse of symptoms, or those who need more robust support than a traditional weekly outpatient meeting can supply. We aim to help all of our clients maintain their daily responsibilities while still processing the stages of recovery.

Clients and their families continue to recommend our services above other facilities because of our flexible scheduling, holistic approach to outpatient recovery, and multidisciplinary team.

Flexible Scheduling

At NY Center for Living, our programs are designed to fit into busy NYC lives with both onsite and virtual options. We provide outpatient and IOP programs, designed for different age groups and their respective struggles and needs.

We ensure that where appropriate, clients have schedules which include ongoing medication management and psychiatric evaluations. These services can help those struggling with addiction recovery and co-occurring mental health conditions like OCD in particular manage their symptoms as they build independence.

We go beyond traditional therapy; our clients enjoy a daily schedule that includes holistic wellness activities and community-based recovery. Together, these holistic aspects to recovery help foster a sense of belonging, build on the coping skills and experiences shared by others, and provide a sober support network that is critical for long term sobriety.
