As parents, clinicians, educators and consumers, we are now face-to-face with the challenges of addressing the vaping crisis as this epidemic is unfolding within the context of a pandemic. Dr. Stephen Dewey, PhD, will lead an extensive and engaging presentation on the neurobiological impact of vaping upon the developing brain. He will provide us with the most current update on the intersection of vaping and severity of COVID symptoms in adolescents and young adults.

Dr. Stephen L. Dewey, a neurobiologist, is well-known locally and nationally for his dynamic presentations. He is the the former Director and Investigator at the Laboratory for Behavioral and Molecular Neuroimaging at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research at Northwell and served as a Research Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine. 

During his 24-year tenure at Brookhaven National laboratory he conducted research on the effects of addictive drugs on the human brain and in 1994 started an outreach program bringing his research findings to school districts. His innovative model of addictive treatment is under national Phase III clinical trials.

Dr. Dewey’s research has been featured on 20/20, Dateline, Good Morning America, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CNN, FOX News, News 12 Long Island, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Newsday.

If you are looking to intervene with a problem with vaping, NYCFL has developed a non-punitive group utilizing principles from the American Lung Association, motivational enhancement and cognitive behavioral therapy. Participants can opt to engage in a professionally led, age-appropriate, smoking cessation group.  This program has generously been underwritten through donations to keep cost to a minimum ($50 per session)

Program information has been submitted to the New York State Office of Addiction and Substance Abuse Services Education and Training for earning or re-credentialing for CASAC training hours
