New York Center for Living Alcohol Rehab

NY Center for Living is a nonprofit outpatient facility in Manhattan providing specialized, evidence-based treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. We have unique programs to address teen drinking, programs for college students struggling with alcoholism, and offerings for adults.

Each level of care is comprised of individualized evidence-based therapies to treat things like alcohol addiction in isolation or co-occurring alcohol addiction and mental health disorders such as PTSD, ADHD, depression, or anxiety.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

With our cognitive behavioral therapy, clients can learn how to identify and reframe negative automatic thoughts. Clients work with a therapist typically one-on-one to better understand the relationship between those automatic thoughts and their subsequent actions or emotions.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Our dialectical behavioral therapy helps clients build things like mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation through a series of modules that build on one another. With these individual and group therapies, clients can learn to deal with distressing emotions instead of immediately turning to alcohol as a maladaptive coping mechanism or manage symptoms of a secondary mental health disorder more effectively.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

For those clients who are struggling with ambivalence in terms of their recovery, especially their immediate recovery, motivational interviewing is a form of therapy that can help them understand why recovery is important and from there build personal reasons to maintain that change.

Trauma-Informed Care

One of our specialized care services includes a trauma-informed approach. This can help address untreated trauma in our clients, things that might be driving the use of alcohol as self-medication or self-soothing behaviors.

Experiential and Creative Arts Recovery

In addition to our core therapeutic modalities we have experiential therapies and more creative outlets that can be incorporated into each client’s treatment program including things like visual arts, improv, and dance movement. These services help engage the mind-body connection during recovery.

What to Expect from NY Center for Living’s Alcohol Rehab

what to look out for

We use several evidence-based treatments for our traditional outpatient programs designed for teenagers struggling with alcohol addiction as well as our intensive outpatient programs for young adults and adults who need specialized care.

Knowing how challenging it can be for certain demographics as well, we provide flexible programs for professionals, alcohol rehab Manhattan CEOs and other high-performing executives might need.

Some of the most common treatments include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and medication-assisted treatment.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Recovery from alcohol addiction can post several health threats especially when done on your own. That is why we use FDA-approved medications for alcohol use disorders, in combination with our outpatient therapies and other holistic modalities to support long-term, lasting recovery. These medications can help with different stages of the recovery process such as reducing the risk of relapse and managing cravings.

Exposure Therapy

For some clients, exposure therapy can help them build long-term resilience and confront any triggers or fears that might be associated with underlying mental health disorders or alcoholism.

Transportation from Across Manhattan

Centrally located in Midtown East at 226 E 52nd St, New York, our facility is easily accessible from just about anywhere. We are near major transit hubs like Grand Central, so starting an alcohol rehab program won’t be hard.

From the Upper East Side, for example, clients can take the 6 train (Downtown) to the 51st St station. From there it is a roughly 5-minute walk. Buses are also an option, with the M101, M102, or M103 buses running south on Lexington Avenue, with stops within two blocks of our center.

From the Upper West Side, the same options exist. Clients can take the E train (Downtown/Queens-bound) to the Lexington Ave/53rd St station, which is just one block north of our facility but the M57 crosstown bus provides direct service across 57th Street to the East Side.

Anyone coming from Lower Manhattan or the Financial District can take the 4 or 5 express trains (Uptown) to Grand Central–42nd St and transfer to the 6 train for one stop to 51st St, or take the E train directly to Lexington Ave/53rd St.

Of course, driving is always an option too. Anyone coming via the FDR Drive can get off on 42nd St or 53rd St, but with heavy Midtown traffic, the subway or buses can make it easier to get on time to appointments.

How To Prepare For Checking Into Treatment

Choosing to treatment is to choose one’s lifelong health and wellness. It’s an important first step toward recovery and healing. In most cases, patients considering inpatient treatment are admitted within 24 hours of their decision to proceed. Here are a few tips to help you or a loved one get set up for success:

  • Bring ID and insurance info
  • Pack 7 days of clothes, just in case
  • Don’t forget toiletries
  • Discard any remaining substances
  • Assume a positive mindset
  • Think long-term thoughts
  • Remember that symptoms can be reduced, not eliminated
  • If necessary, inform bosses or partners of a temporary leave of absence
  • Show love to your loved ones
  • Get excited about your future again
