A Neighborhood Drug Rehab with a Community Mission
Unlike large hospital systems or corporate treatment chains, New York Center for Living is a nonprofit rehab center located on the Upper East Side, dedicated to personalized care and family involvement. Our programs are tailored to meet clients at their current stage in life—whether they are adolescents balancing school, young adults navigating independence, or adults managing careers and families.

What We Offer
Who We Serve in the Upper East Side
Quality Care in NYC
Adolescents
Our outpatient care specifically targets teenagers who are beginning to encounter substance use challenges, alongside accompanying mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, or family-related stressors. We provide a supportive environment where young people can learn coping strategies, boost their emotional resilience, and engage in therapeutic activities aimed at fostering their overall well-being.
Young Adults
We have developed a comprehensive Structured Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that features up to nine hours of therapy each week. This program is specifically designed for young adults navigating the complexities of college life, embarking on early career paths, and seeking to establish independence. Through counseling sessions, skills training, and peer support, we empower participants to build both their personal and professional lives while addressing their concerns.
Professionals
Our services for adults include both outpatient and virtual therapy options, ensuring flexibility for busy professionals and parents. We offer a specialized track for Adult Professionals to specifically cater to individuals striving to achieve a harmonious balance between their recovery journey and their responsibilities in work and family life. Here, clients can engage in meaningful therapy that respects their unique circumstances and promotes lasting personal growth.
Levels of Care in the Upper East Side
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Young Adults and Adults
Our IOP provides a structured yet adaptable format, offering up to 9 hours of clinical programming per week. This program helps clients develop recovery skills while managing daily responsibilities. Services include:
- Individual and group therapy
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Peer recovery support
- Family involvement and education
- Wellness and recovery activities
The IOP is ideal for clients who have completed inpatient or residential treatment and need ongoing care, as well as for those beginning recovery who require more structure than weekly therapy alone.
Outpatient Program for Adolescents
Our outpatient program for adolescents provides up to 6 hours of group therapy per week, along with individual and family sessions. Given that teenagers have busy schedules and school commitments, this flexible model allows them to receive intensive clinical care without interfering with their academic or extracurricular activities.
Adolescents engage in evidence-based therapy, family support, and creative interventions—such as improvisational activities—that help build communication skills, confidence, and healthy coping strategies.
Comprehensive, Evidence-Based Therapies
At NYCFL, every treatment plan is personalized and based on research-backed methods that have proven effective in facilitating lasting recovery. We integrate:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address negative thought patterns and behaviors tied to substance use
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to teach emotional regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness
- Motivational Interviewing (MI) to strengthen internal motivation for change
- Exposure Therapy to help clients safely confront and reduce triggers related to anxiety, trauma, or stress
- Individual and Group Therapy for a balance of personal reflection and peer connection
- Wellness and Recovery Activities such as mindfulness, creative expression, and community engagement
